Making fire in snow

It's funny, so many of the things you see in these videos seem like common sense little hacks that everyone would obviously do.

When you are actually out in the woods trying to get stuff done, it is never so obvious. Even worse, if your life depended on getting a fire started and it was inclement out these little hacks might be the difference between life and death.

I was out in the backyard testing out our Better can stove in the snow last weekend. I had lots of wood around, but even though it seemed old and dried it wasn't. I wish I had seen the snapping sticks cleanly to tell if they were dry trick, and the putting sticks near fire to dry them out as you are maintaining the fire trick.

I do love how learning one new skill builds on your entire repertoire if you think about other applications.
