Bushcraft Bushcraft
I think a lot of preppers have the idea of the lone wolf grabbing their Bug Out Bag heading out to the hills at the first sign of trouble.
They will live off the land and stay away from everyone until it's safe.
Unfortunately I think this is a romantic idea that will quickly prove fatal. It is almost impossible to keep yourself alive all alone for any extended period... especially if you are in a place with a brutal winter and no supplies.
That being said, I think there is a place for bushcraft skills. For example if you get stuck somewhere away from your bug out location and are forced to hike in, if you are attacked by an overwhelming force and forced to flee into the woods, or even something as mundane as your car breaking down in a remote area, and you are forced to get yourself to safety.
The other great thing about actually practicing bushcraft is you are constantly working your body and brain, trying to figure stuff out. You are getting hands on practice with your tools and becoming familiar with them
