Girl Hit with Shovel
There are so many lessons to learn from this video. At any point the outcome could have changed to something much less problematic.
This is obviously two sheltered, over confident girls who have seen too many tv shows about fighting. My guess is neither of them has been in a real fight, or punched in the face. If they had, they would have treated the whole situation differently.
They both agree to fight in the beginning.
When the girl picks up the shovel and seems like she might use it, the second girl has a choice. Step in towards her so the first girl can't get a really good swing, or immediately turn and start sprinting as fast as you can. It's unlikely the shovel girl could run with a weapon fast enough and swing to get a good hit.
Unfortunately, she doesn't make either decision, but slowly backs away , allowing the girl with the shovel to close the distance and get a really good swing.
As a last resort, a few hands on self defense lessons would have minimized any brain damage she might have incurred. Always keep your hands up. If anything comes at your head, cover it. It's the most important thing you own.
Lesson: If someone pulls a weapon on you, immediately decide to fight or run. Either is fine, but do it at 100% intensity.
At a minimum have some kind of self defense plan drilled into anyone you care about.
One lesson might be to always have a 'controller' in any training situations. Someone who's passions are not out of control. If you are in a situation where things escalate like this, be prepared to intervene.
Lesson: If you want to fight, go to a fighting gym, put on safety equipment and go for it.
The first time you get punched in the nose it will not seem as glamorous or fun
Why did none of their friends try to stop her from hitting the girl in the head? If someone had broken her thought train for one second, the outcome might have been radically different.
Are bystanders liable in any way? Even if you are not, you could definitely be sued for not intervening. (You might not loose the case, but it could mess up your day).
The big question becomes what happened to the girl who got hit? Don't worry, she survived... but the girl who hit her wouldn't have known she would.
If you injure someone, and they go home and die from the injuries, you will be charged with murder.
Even if they seem fine at the time, and go home and fall asleep, then die, you are still culpable. (link to person charged with murder for person who died much later from wounds.)
Lesson: If you loose your composure and injure someone, stick with them and make sure they get medical treatment.
