Windmills
While you can use a Wind Turbine to generate electricity, you can also use them to directly do work, or store other forms of energy.
For example for years farmers have used windmills to pump water from underground.
Mennonites use windmills to compress air, which drives tools like sewing machines and fans.
Europeans also have a whole line of compressed air tools including routers and table saws.
You can store compressed air in large tanks, or use the energy from the windmill to pump water up a hill. This would allow you to use it for farming/gardening later.
