Personal Protection

Warning: I am not a lawyer or a personal defense expert. Always do your own research and contact a relevant expert before attempting anything here.

Canada has very strict weapons laws regarding self defense. Basically you are not allowed to carry any self defense weapon. Ever.

You are allowed to own firearms in Canada, however if someone did break into your house you are not allowed to use them against an intruder.

This is not to say you can't have any items on your person that you could defend yourself with, but the act of carrying them specifically for self protection is illegal.

Long guns are legal to own if you have a permit. Handguns are also legal, but you need an extra restricted license. Neither however are legal to carry for self defense. You need to be transporting them to or from a location unloaded. Restricted firearms need to be unloaded with a trigger guard, in a locked box. You also need an Authorization to transport permit.

Most carbines have recently become illegal, but this is being challenged in court.

It's very important to be conscious of the fact that prepping for everyday personal protection, and after a SHTF event is very different. Even specific types of events should be considered.
