That’s why we train so hard.

Interrogation

This is an interesting video where a Canadian criminal firearms lawyer breaks down the Alek Minassian interrogation.

In Canada you do have the right to contact a lawyer when you are being questioned, however it is very different from what happens in the States.
The officers will pause the interrogation and allow you to call a lawyer.
Once you are finished, the interview will resume. You don't have the right to have the lawyer in person unless you are under 18.

Police can generally hold you 24 hours (sometimes longer on weekends or holidays) before having to decide to charge you or let you go. If you are suspected of a serious crime they can you up to 96 hours(4 days!). The police are free to interview you as much as they want during this time.
