A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Maps and Reading

Anyone who has begun driving in the last 10 years or so likely hasn't bothered to learn how to read Map books. My guess is that even the people who do know how probably don't have a current one anyways).

With Google Maps and Waze being so convenient, even the old offline GPS units are falling out of favour. While it's much more convenient, it leaves most people completely lost when they are unable to use it.

Having a semi current map in each car, and making sure everyone knows how to use it could prove invaluable.

Solar storms, an invasion or insurrection, or even just a cell tower problem might leave a majority of people stranded.

In addition, try get make a rough mental sketch of the major highways and roads in your area. Start with the major highway that will take you home. (The 401 in my case.)

Then add other major highways (the QEW), as well as connecting highways. (410 and 403).

Knowing which way these highways go (The 401 goes east/west)
