Bug Out Bag

My problem with most bug out bags, is that they clearly look like a bug out bag.... even to people who know nothing about prepping. This is hardly grey man level anonymity.

Kids

Kids should have their own bug out bags packed and ready to go. They should know where they are and be able to get them when asked.

Include essential items they could reasonably carry(small headlamp), plus things that will make your life easier (favorite stuffie).
Think of a situation where you get separated from one of them, such as a mass evacuation. How will you reconnect if phones are out?

Place copies of the kids ID in their bags, and maybe a map with known locations circled. (Grandmas house, where you are headed etc). Include phone numbers of out of state/province people. They sometimes work when local ones don't

Here is a good test after you finish packing your bag:
Try having every member of your family wear their bug out bag, and take a hike as far as you can go.

Are you exhausted after an hour or two?
How far can the weakest member of your family go?
How long can you last?
How well does the bag feel?
How does the bag hold up? Does it start to rip?

Record the distance you hike, then look it up on Google Maps. I'll bet it's not as far as you though.
