Pepper Spray

Pepper spray (or mace) is illegal to buy or sell in Canada.

Bear spray may be legally purchased, but is only legal to use against an attacking bear. When you purchase it you need to sign an agreement containing a waver that you assume all risks of using the spray

It is illegal to carry bear spray for self protection against people, and it is always illegal to spray people with bear pray. Don't carry bear spray in an urban environment, and if you are arguing with someone while hiking, don't spray them.

While you can't carry it outside, if you are placed in a dangerous situation in your house, you are going to have to make a conscious decision on when you are willing to use it to defend yourself.

It is interesting to note when we asked my firearms teacher if he would shoot an intruder if he could access his gun in time, his response was no. He would go for the pepper spray.
