Protection > Personal > Firearms > FirearmsLicenseFirearms License
Although firearms are highly regulated in Canada, they are obtainable if you are able to meet certain criteria.
First you need to pass a background check.
You can then take a two day course to get your firearms license (rifles), and your restricted firearms license (handguns).
After successfully completing the course your instructor sends in a form to the Chief Firearms Officer to apply for the license. He will also give you a form to send in. One part of the form asks your current and ex spouses to certify they are ok with you owning a gun. Always play nice!
It takes a couple of months to receive your license in the mail. (A cool down period I am guessing.)
When you would like to purchase a firearm you just bring your license to the gun shop. You pick your gun, pay for it and they record your license number and send a request to the CFO. If you are legit he sends you a text and the store will release your firearm.
You also need to show your license when you buy ammunition, without the wait.
